Waiting on Wednesday #3

The translation of Beowulf by J.R.R. Tolkien was an early work, very distinctive in its mode, completed in 1926: he returned to it later to make hasty corrections, but seems never to have considered its publication.

Release Date: May 22nd.

Well this week was an easy pick! I will buy and read anything with ‘J.R.R.Tolkien”s name slapped on (even if the work has been carried on by his son and I know quite a few people who don’t like what Christopher has done/editing with his father’s work).

Comes out tomorrow! And I’m quite sure you all know the story of Beowulf. No, you don’t? They pick up this copy tomorrow! ^_^

  1. MMMM… a combination of two of my favourites, Tolkien and Beowulf. Have you read the original by Seamus Heaney (sp?), I read it a couple of years ago and loved it. Then again, I’m partial to anything in which a monster, monsters mum and then dragon appear. We read an article by Tolkien, and were told he had done some translating, but I hadn’t realised this was being relesased! Yay!
