This Week’s Cover:

whatthestorysaturday9

My Story: O wow! This cover looked exciting! So it’s about two best friends; one is a night and one is an assassin pirate and they are going against ‘knights’ in a rebellion. But the main guy (with the blonde hair) has a secret! He can transform into a leopard! It’s a fantasy book with lots of battles! (I’m tired tonight so the creative juices ain’t flowing much).

The Actual Synopsis: Ahjvar, the assassin known as the Leopard, wants only to die, to end the curse that binds him to a life of horror. Although he has no reason to trust the goddess Catairanach or her messenger Deyandara, fugitive heir to a murdered tribal queen, desperation leads him to accept her bargain: if he kills the mad prophet known as the Voice of Marakand, Catairanach will free him of his curse. Accompanying him on his mission is the one person he has let close to him in a lifetime of death, a runaway slave named Ghu. Ahj knows Ghu is far from the half-wit others think him, but in Marakand, the great city where the caravan roads of east and west meet, both will need to face the deepest secrets of their souls, if either is to survive the undying enemies who hunt them and find a way through the darkness that damns the Leopard.

After Thoughts: Sounds a hell of a lot better than my idea! But I was right about having an assassin! xD

This sounds awesome! Do you not agree?

This Week’s Cover:

whatthestorysaturday8

My Story: I was watching Relic Hunter last night and I love Tomb Raider and The Mummy, so guess what story ideas are running through my head here?! xD BUT the tag line mentioned magic. O dear I am stuck… Okay so a magic, lost relic perhaps? ‘Magic caused the war’ so previously magic was in the world but due to the overpowering use of magic, war broke out between…. two different types of magical beings and it got so ‘nuclear’ that after it magic was forbidden. BUT now there’s a… evil magic person trying to control the world and only…. I’m guessing this is MG or YA so three kids have to go on a mission and travel to find the magic item that will save the world! And it is… the eye of…Osiris? xD OR! The Relic Guild is the good magic side group of people that combat the bad guy!

The Actual Synopsis: It was said the Labyrinth had once been the great meeting place, a sprawling city at the heart of an endless maze where a million humans hosted the Houses of the Aelfir. The Aelfir who had brought trade and riches, and a future full of promise. But when the Thaumaturgists, overlords of human and Aelfir alike, went to war, everything was ruined and the Labyrinth became an abandoned forbidden zone, where humans were trapped behind boundary walls a hundred feet high.Young Clara struggles to survive in a dangerous and dysfunctional city, where eyes are keen, nights are long, and the use of magic is punishable by death. When a strange man named Fabian Moor returns to the Labyrinth, Clara learns that magic serves a higher purpose and that some myths are much more deadly in the flesh. The only people Clara can trust are the Relic Guild, a secret band of magickers sworn to protect the Labyrinth. To truly defeat their old nemesis Moor, mightier help will be required. To save the Labyrinth – and the lives of one million humans – Clara and the Relic Guild must find a way to contact the worlds beyond their walls.

After Thoughts: This was my worst attempt, right? Okay so it has an Attack on Titan feel, if Attack on Titan was about magic and gods, and not human-eating-giants. My second guess on the novel was similar! I do love the cover of this book but not the novel for me…

What did you guess? Have you read this? What did you think?

This Week’s Cover:

whatthestorysaturday7

My Story: I’m thinking two things. A. Three kids find a trap door in their basement one day and decide to follow this ladder down, down, down, and it leads them into a magical world and a magical adventure. Most likely getting this jewel for one group of underground beings so they can defeat the bad group underground. I imagine these creatures have insect like parts to them but are overall human forms with dirty faces due to the mud. B. Nuclear explosion and three people survived in a bunker underground and it’s this suspense thing and them being trapped in this bunker with no knowledge of what’s going on outside and the whole premise is: do they dare risk opening the hatchet and finding out of their world, as they knew it, is destroyed. And when they do open the hachet and discover what’s happened (I’m assumed ruins and an army of another country has taken over) and thus the ‘fallout’ of the war begins.

The Actual Synopsis: In the summer of 1962, the possibility of nuclear war is all anyone talks about. But Scott’s dad is the only one in the neighborhood who actually prepares for the worst. As the neighbors scoff, he builds a bomb shelter to hold his family and stocks it with just enough supplies to keep the four of them alive for two critical weeks. In the middle of the night in late October, when the unthinkable happens, those same neighbors force their way into the shelter before Scott’s dad can shut the door. With not enough room, not enough food, and not enough air, life inside the shelter is filthy, physically draining, and emotionally fraught. But even worse is the question of what will — and won’t — remain when the door is opened again.

After Thoughts: So my second story was pretty spot on! Nuclear war/bombs: I got that. In a shelter underground: got that. Questioning whether to open the door or not: got that! Although I thought it’d take place in the near future and I had at least one teenage blonde girl as my character in it. I was getting a 5th Wave feel off it. So, once again, I was pretty spot on! Which, once again, means either authors are being too predictable or my creative juices are top notch! xD AND, I actually like my first story that I came up with for this cover, so I may pursue it in time! xD

What did you think the story behind the cover was? Have you read the book? What did you think of it?

whatthestorysaturday6

My Story: I’m getting a YA/City of Bones vibe (even though I’ve never read the book!) so maybe a group of teenage hunters or it’s an underground society of teenagers who fight against supernatural beings. It’s set in….. New York? (that is NY right? o_O)… if it is YA then we can assume the MC is a girl and will fall in love with a SPN creature! … or is this a secret society, adults, who fight in the background against criminals, kinda like a Person of Interest but in like 1960s or something without tech… isn’t this the author who wrote The Winner’s Curse? … it’s defo a YA with a female lead then! xD

The Actual Synopsis: Darcy Jones doesn’t remember anything before the day she was abandoned as a child outside a Chicago firehouse. She has never really belonged anywhere—but she couldn’t have guessed that she comes from an alternate world where the Great Chicago Fire didn’t happen and deadly creatures called Shades terrorize the human population. Darcy decides to infiltrate the Shadow Society and uncover the Shades’ latest terrorist plot.

After Thoughts: I was pretty bang on! YA/female lead/stopping criminals/deadly creatures, I technically got all that! It also mentions there’s romance (subgenre on GR) so ding ding ding I win! ^_^ bad luck for the author though because doesn’t this mean her book is all too predictable?

What did you think the story behind the cover was? Have you read the book?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

This Week’s Is:

whatthestorysaturday5

My Story: I’m thinking maybe an isolated boy who is…. either a hacker or maybe autism… or has social anxieties and a girl who lives next door and gets curious about him and slowly as the days go on, and she tries talking to him, he opens up to her and lets her into his apartment and then… something bad is gunna happen and it’s up to them two to stop it!

The Actual Synopsis: When Adam meets Robyn at a support group for kids coping with obsessive-compulsive disorder, he is drawn to her almost before he can take a breath. He’s determined to protect and defend her–to play Batman to her Robyn–whatever the cost. But when you’re fourteen and the everyday problems of dealing with divorced parents and step-siblings are supplemented by the challenges of OCD, it’s hard to imagine yourself falling in love. How can you have a “normal” relationship when your life is so fraught with problems? And that’s not even to mention the small matter of those threatening letters Adam’s mother has started to receive . . .

After Thoughts: Okay so I was pretty much on the mark when I got that it was about a boy and a girl and he had something which stopped him from having a ‘normal’ daily life. I thought they characters were a lot older though (no YA). And there’s romance in it which I kinda thought there would be ^_^ once again, I didn’t do too bad!

What did you think the story behind the cover was?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Week 5’s [shhh, we’ll pretend I haven’t missed weeks and stuff xD] pick is:

whatthestorysaturday4

My Story: This kind of reminds me of the shinning. I am stuck between two stories here… 1. A suspense thriller about a murder in a hotel filled with the rich, wealthy and possible famous. or 2. About the rich, wealthy and famous and their daily lives but something isn’t right which could be there are secrets which will be uncovered or maybe even a story about a ghost?! I honestly, cannot think of much for this cover. All I know is that I get a creepy vibe.

The Actual Synopsis: Audrey and her family only plan to stay the night, but life in the Ruby can be intoxicating, extending their stay as it provides endless distractions—including handsome guest Elias Lange, who sends Audrey’s pulse racing. However, the hotel proves to be as strange as it is beautiful. Nightly fancy affairs in the ballroom are invitation only, and Audrey seems to be the one guest who doesn’t have an invite. Instead, she joins the hotel staff on the rooftop, catching whispers about the hotel’s dark past.
The more Audrey learns about the new people she’s met, the more her curiosity grows. Welcome to the Ruby.

After Thoughts: GR labels this as YA mystery so that fits what I was thinking about. The synopsis mentions it’s a ‘grand’ hotel so I got that part. and an invitation only event? Sounds like I was on the right direction, which makes me very happy!

Week 4’s Pick Is:

whatthestorysaturday3

My Story: A mid-twenties woman is secretly and investigator and is currently on a case. However, her family and friend’s don’t know what her ‘night job’ is so she has to keep the mission a secret. Maybe something to do with a new drug called velvet which is linked to Nuclear Power/Bombs? She’s sassy but very straight faced and sees herself above men. Time zone is… either 1920/1930s or modern day.

The Actual Synopsis: Samantha Donaldson’s family has always done its duty for the British Crown. In the midst of World War I, seventeen-year-old Sam follows in their footsteps, serving her country from the homefront as a Girl Guide and messenger for the intelligence organization MI5. After her father disappears on a diplomatic mission, she continues their studies of languages, high-level mathematics, and complex puzzles and codes, hoping to make him proud.

After Thoughts: I was close with investigator and her being a spy! I also said 1920s and this is WWI so just before it xD but everything else is like completely different. I keep writing or guessing the stories are about detectives and mysteries so I think that’s my brain telling me to get it all out on paper and finally write a mystery novel… but while I love Japanese detective shows, I’ve never read a mystery novel. Got any recs?

Same Time, Next Week!
