2016 Resolutions!

It’s that time of year again!! I am definitely going to try and make more realistic goals this year unlike last year xD Let’s have a look shall we?

  1. Read 50 books – I seem to read about 45 books every year and only ever give myself like a 20 book goal, so I wanna see if I can push myself xD
  2. Manga/Book ratio – It’s back this year and I really want my book total to outweigh my manga total.
  3. Get Kindle Books down to 80 – I have an insane amount of kindle books (168 books)and that needs sorting!
  4. Get English Physical Books down to 20 – I think I’m currently at 45.
  5. Finish ALL Arcs – seriously, I need to BAN myself from NetGalley and get some reading done!
  6. Finish 5 Brandon Sanderson books – A serious tone down from last year where I wanted to read ALL the books by him but like I said, I’m being more realistic this year xD. I mainly wanna finish the first Mistborn trilogy and then I am thinking of reading his earlier bookes; Elantris and Warbreaker. Also they are currently not part of a series so I think it’d be good for me to get through those two.

  7. Finish a novel – even if it’s for NaNoWriMo!
  8. Read 2 classics
  9. Finish 3 series – manga is allowed!!
  10. Continue #Project5Books – even though I failed it this year xD
  11. Read a full-length Japanese books – I will do this!!

And they are my goals! I definitely have more fun making goals rather than completing them xD

So that is the train wreck I call my fail of 2015 resolutions…. How bad did you do? I am proud of how many books I read this year and I’m exceedingly proud that almost ALL the manga I read was in Japanese so that’s a huge accomplishment in my opinion but I only managed to complete 2 challenges and there were only 5 challenges that should’ve been possible! And not even being able to do those is just… embarrassing!

There’s always next year anyway ^_^

How did you do this year?

The Last Blast & The First Spurt Read-a-Thon

So I just came up with this now. It’s more of a personal read-a-thon but join if you wish! Basically, I’m gunna have a read-a-thon 29th December to the 3rd January to ensure I finish as many books at the end of the year as possible as well as get a good head start on next years challenge (book count still undecided).

If you DO wanna join then here are the details:

Runs: Midnight (your time) 29th December – 3rd Jan 11:59pm (your time)
Challenge: Read as many book as possible! Hit that goal count! Get a good head start!

I hope to get Mistborn finished, maybe get a good head start into Enlantris as well as finally finish GANTZ and some other manga xD

If you do join let me know but like I said, it’s personally for me so I don’t mind if you don’t join ^_^

November WU, December CR + NaNoWriMo!

We are in the final month of the year which is exceedingly crazy! This year has gone FAST!

Wrap Up:

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (4.5/5)

The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)

I’ve also read about 25% of Well of Ascension and I am really enjoying it but I was more preoccupied with TV and NaNo in November to seriously stick my teeth into it.

Currently Reading:

The Well of Ascension and I started Heroin Shikakku Volume 4 today too!

The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2)

I have less than 30 days to read about 10 books – that ain’t gunna happen and I ain’t worried. I’ll have about 12 days off work this month so fingers crossed I can get some serious reading done in that time!

Also, NaNoWriMo!

nanologo

I did not complete NaNoWrimo, I only got about 12,000ish words BUT I don’t feel guilty or unaccomplished xD It was close to my personal goal which was 15,000 words so that’s great! I wanna finally get serious about writing and so between now and Camp NaNoWriMo, I wanna finish the story I began this NaNo and then once Camp comes around, I wanna start a new story for that and then work on that until the next NaNo and – you see the cycle plan I have going – but we will see. I always have LOTS of goals every year and never really complete any of them. So we’ll see.

How was your November Reading Month? What is your December TBR or Currently Reading? Are you freaking out that it’s the last month of the year?!

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

notw

I finally got around to writing the review for this! I am excited to get this review out although I am no doubt of one the bajillion positive reviews that you’ve already seen about this book – so sorry that I happen to be matching the popular opinion in this book. BUT, I will take this moment to say: I went into this book with NO expectations. All I knew before hand was:

  • About a magic school
  • 3 days of a person’s life
  • A lot of negative reviews commented about the story being slow and the character being very naive (but this could’ve been more about the second book)
  • Pat Rothfuss is such an intelligent, funny and nice guy.

Regarding the last point: It is because I enjoy watching Pat Rothfuss interviews and because I enjoyed his podcast so much, is why I decided to finally pick up this book. He is a great person and it helps to really like the author when it comes to a book, or at least gets me more motivated about reading a book when the author is great!

So without further ado, lets get onto the actual review!

Quickie Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Holy crap this was so good!! From start to finish, I was engrossed with the story. While it’s technically a slow paced story, it no way felt like it dragged once!!! I was so absorbed in the world and what Kvothe was doing and the writing flowed so well that it (again while the story is ‘slow’) reads quickly. Rothfuss hella knows how to write and certainly knows the right words to use!!! Some words I seriously loved! Like seriously, beautiful word choice! My favourite characters… that’s tough, definitely young Kvothe . I loved the conflict between Kvothe and Ambrose was great! But Ambrose does scare me a little and concerned as to what he’ll plot next! I like how our MC is never safe; he’s always at risk of dying or serious injury, as well as not sure whether he’ll be able to afford to live and while it is rather depressing, it was nice not having that safety net. Auri is still a mystery too – how did she get there?! Finally, I like Bast – cannot wait to see how he got picked up along the way and what he actually is! The one main location that I love is definitely the Library! It holds so many secrets and feels like an actual, live character =] From the writing, to the story, to the characters, to the chilling ending (omg the ending was just so chilling and so just dark and powerful!) ; I loved it and I need more!!!!

Quotes:

Call a jack, a jack. Call a spade, a spade. But always call a whore a lady. They lives are hard enough‘ << genius!!

never do anything in private that I didn’t want talked about in public

“You think too much of me.” I smiled. “Perhaps you think too little of yourself.”

‘ It was the patient, cut-flower sound of a man who is waiting for die. ‘ < that ending!!!!

And that’s everything!! I think I’m gunna leave it a while before I start bok two because I don’t wanna rush the two main books and the novella and then have to wait 2 years for the final book. So I’ll see how Rothfuss’ progress is during 2016 before I start reading the second book.

Have you read this? What did you thnk? Do you want to read it? Comment Below!

October Wrap Up and November CR!

Two months left to go – holy crap!! But alas let us move onto what you came for: Book Information!

Wrap Up:

Nothing

Not gunna lie… I didn’t finish a single book! I did read my monthly manga chapters but that’s literally all I ‘completed’ but getting through an almost 700 page book in a month is impressive (Name of the Wind) so I am very happy rather than disappointed xD

Currently Reading:

was currently reading The Name of the Wind BUT I finished it yesterday!!! ❤

The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)

Review will be up for it soon, but just so you know: I LOVED IT!

So now my Currently Reading is:

The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2)

I’m thinking of also continuing the Heroin Shikkaku and Orange manga this month.

Also, quick reminder I am participating in NaNoWriMo!

If you are too then lets be buds! My link is here.

I still haven’t gotten a solid plan but the past few days I’ve been filling in the 4 ideas that I have in my head and they’re getting very fleshed out and meaty which is great so hopefully I’ll have a solid decision and begin seriously writing soon! *yes I am counting my planning words as a word count – no shame!*

How was your October Reading Month? I know quite a few people on here got through 10+ books – congrats!! What is your November TBR or Currently Reading? HAVE A GREAT NOVEMBER READING MONTH!!
