We are in the final month of the year which is exceedingly crazy! This year has gone FAST!
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (4.5/5)
I’ve also read about 25% of Well of Ascension and I am really enjoying it but I was more preoccupied with TV and NaNo in November to seriously stick my teeth into it.
The Well of Ascension and I started Heroin Shikakku Volume 4 today too!
I have less than 30 days to read about 10 books – that ain’t gunna happen and I ain’t worried. I’ll have about 12 days off work this month so fingers crossed I can get some serious reading done in that time!
I did not complete NaNoWrimo, I only got about 12,000ish words BUT I don’t feel guilty or unaccomplished xD It was close to my personal goal which was 15,000 words so that’s great! I wanna finally get serious about writing and so between now and Camp NaNoWriMo, I wanna finish the story I began this NaNo and then once Camp comes around, I wanna start a new story for that and then work on that until the next NaNo and – you see the cycle plan I have going – but we will see. I always have LOTS of goals every year and never really complete any of them. So we’ll see.
How was your November Reading Month? What is your December TBR or Currently Reading? Are you freaking out that it’s the last month of the year?!
Two months left to go – holy crap!! But alas let us move onto what you came for: Book Information!
Not gunna lie… I didn’t finish a single book! I did read my monthly manga chapters but that’s literally all I ‘completed’ but getting through an almost 700 page book in a month is impressive (Name of the Wind) so I am very happy rather than disappointed xD
I was currently reading The Name of the Wind BUT I finished it yesterday!!! ❤
Review will be up for it soon, but just so you know: I LOVED IT!
So now my Currently Reading is:
I’m thinking of also continuing the Heroin Shikkaku and Orange manga this month.
Also, quick reminder I am participating in NaNoWriMo!
If you are too then lets be buds! My link is here.
I still haven’t gotten a solid plan but the past few days I’ve been filling in the 4 ideas that I have in my head and they’re getting very fleshed out and meaty which is great so hopefully I’ll have a solid decision and begin seriously writing soon! *yes I am counting my planning words as a word count – no shame!*
How was your October Reading Month? I know quite a few people on here got through 10+ books – congrats!! What is your November TBR or Currently Reading? HAVE A GREAT NOVEMBER READING MONTH!!
OKAY! So I’ve FINALLY thought of a story I really like and wanna stick to, so I am officially announcing my participation in NaNoWriMo 2015!!!!
BUT before I begin writing, can I request a favour from you all?
In your knowledge, do you know of any books/manga/anime/movies/tv that are samurai/sword-play/meiji/edo/historical themed? I know usual ones such as Seven Samurai and Rashomon.
PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!
It’s been about 9 days since I last updated and I gotta be honest; I haven’t written in like 4 days =/ I realised early last week that I hadn’t written out my plan fully and so had to spend time doing that which lead me to realise that I don’t remember my story at all! And it was rather disheartening trying to remember it but then realising you don’t and now knowing that whatever I write won’t what I originally intended… but hopefully I can power through the last 6000 or so words xD
I am participating in Camp NaNo! Hopefully I can reach my goal of 10,000 words before the 25th ^_^ I have decided to go back to my very first Camp NaNo story and finish it off while editing my second Camp story alongside it =] My first Camp story is currently at 6680 words (aye I did abismal the first time around) and my second Camp story is technically completely written but I have no idea how long it is (I think I calculated it to around 35,000 words) and I forgot to include things (it was hand written) and needs serious editing ^_^
I haven’t quite decided how I’ll update you all but I’ll figure it out.
To all fellow Campers!! Let’s motivate each other and help each other out!! =]
It is getting very close to the end and I’ve hit a section which I find very difficult to write; fight scenes. I have never written one in my life nor have I read many in books =/ so obviously I am roaming the NaNo forum for help and also googling but I was wandering if;
– Do you have any (sword) fighting scenes advice?
– Is there any books that you’ve read that have featured great fight scenes? (chapter specific would be a bonus is case I have the book!)
PS. I’ve just broke 30K! Let’s hope I can write the remaining 20K in two days – eek!
I think I’ve finalised my list – did I miss anything?

So just as I thought, I am spending halloween in bed watching tv instead of going out and partying like a normal uni student. Two reasons for this; I don’t want to spend all tomorrow hung over and not being able to do work and I don’t want to start NaNoWriMo with a bad (hungover) start! Also, just not feeling it this year – at all.
Also, my NaNoWriMo is going to be split up a little…
Being a final year, I have a 12,000 word dissertation due April 16th, so I thought ‘might as well use NaNoWriMo to get a decent amount of work done!’ so this year’s NaNo is being split up into:
1. Around 45,000 words of a new novel.
2. Around 5,000 (hopefully more) words of my dissertation being written.
The daily word count will stay at 1667 words per day but I can take the words written from both documents to go towards it. I think this is ideal for me and it’s my novel (and dissertation) so I can decide my word count! ^_^ Sound good enough?
It’ll probably go; Monday – Wednesday I focus on dissertation rather than novel (as I have classes those days) and my days off will be hitting the word count in my novel =]
I am excited to get started on my novel, although I am currently suffering from loving my 2nd Main character way more than my Main main character – anyone else?
If it’s already Nov. 1st for you then I HOPE YOU ARE DOING WELL!!
If you’re in England (with me) then LET’S COUNT THESE 1HR AND 55 MINUTES DOWN IN STYLE!!
If you’re in America and way way far from your Nov. 1st starting then HANG IN THERE – IT’LL COME SOON!!
Also: Happy Halloween ^_^
Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap!!!! due to going out last night, and using all today to recover, I still haven’t finished my character profiles nor my world building!!!! Holy ****…..
I was really hoping this week, I’d be able to give you little character and world descriptions to see if you’re interested in the story and such but obviously that hasn’t happened and now I have about 28 hours and 16 minutes until NaNo begin and wow that is not enough time! Wish me luck?
How’s everyone else’s planning going?!
As you all know, I settled on an idea and got my plot structure sorted!
Woo, so you’re ready to go then Alex?
Unfortunately for me; creating the plot and story structure is the easiest part for me to do every time.
Here I am in (probably) the most difficult part for me personally; names. Whether it’s a character’s name, name of a city, name of a creature etc. I have so much difficulty choosing names, and even after choosing a name; most of the time I feel it either doesn’t match my character or I think ‘when someone reads this, they’ll think ‘what a shitty name!” and so this is probably where I feel my most stress.
Especially seen as this time I am writing a fantasy, and fantasies are known to feature characters with unique and very uncommon names.
So I would like to ask you all; how do you go about name characters/places/things?
And to add to that – as my story is a fantasy; I have to technically world build a lot. And I am having trouble thinking of names in terms of; can I get through this story without having to specific what time, what planet, what country these characters are in? Can I just get away with mentioning and describing the places they are in and travel to without getting into a massive scale world building project? What do you guys think?
Thank you for reading!!
