Top Debut Novels!

This was on a Top 5 Wednesday about two weeks ago and I thought I’d share with you my favourite debut novels. Let’s get the obvious ones out of the way shall we?

The HobbitHarry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

Both are fantastical and amazing adventures with awesome characters!

And now to some others!

Attack on Titan, Vol. 1 (Attack on Titan, #1)

Holy shit this manga had an amazing start! And it’s still amazing now! If you like manga this is a MUST for you! I would also say Death Note fans would enjoy it but I dunno, even though I am a DN fan myself >.<

Noughts & Crosses (Noughts & Crosses, #1)

While I ended up hating this book in the end (personally one part really got to me), I remember this book being SO interesting and fast paced and suspenseful and I loved the idea of a switched history where it was the white people who were the slaves and such!

The Rain (The Rain, #1)

This one really knocked me over when I read it. Maybe it was because I was expecting disappointment because I have had such bad experiences with YA but this book really impressed me! Not only could I relate because it was set in England, it was also about rain and we ALL know England only has one type of weather: rain xD It also felt very possible and very real and therefore was frightening which was awesome!

The Girl at Midnight

This was a solid debut novel! It had adventure, wasn’t too bad on the romance, fell a little at the end, but had diversity and homosexual relationships in and was a great story!

Ender's Game (The Ender Quintet, #1)

This was my first dip into SF and did not disappoint! That twist ending (which is spoiled in the film’s trailer -_-) had me BLOWN away. I thought (and still think) it was my best intro to SF ever and it is still very high on my best books list! It’s adventurous, brutal, fun, suspenseful, has good messages in it. Yes the author is a douche but man it’s a good book!

Death Note, Vol. 1: Boredom (Death Note, #1)

I guess this should’ve been in the obvious pile? xD

Hope you enjoyed these!

Do you agree? What are you favourite debut novels?

Same Time, Next Week!

March Wrap Up and April TBR!

A very very slow going month and I still haven’t started #YearofCosmere [probs won’t until the summer] so I would say an unsuccessful month and it will probably continue on being a slow reading period until mid-May but I can still hope to read a lot!

Wrap Up

Magyk by Angie Sage

Magyk (Septimus Heap, #1)

This was a pretty good book but it’s a shame it had to experience not being read weeks at a time ='[

TBR

The Glass Magician (The Paper Magician Trilogy, #2)The Girl at Midnight (The Girl at Midnight, #1)Car FeverThe Jungle BookTreasure IslandAwakening (Infinity Blade, #1)Brave New WorldWyrd Sisters (Discworld, #6)The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, #1)A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)Peter Jackson: A Film-Maker's Journey

I am currently 60% of the way through The Glass Magician (only took a few hours to get to that point) so I imagine I’ll be done soon ^_^ And then I’d like to read another ARC and some smaller books (so seven are above to choose from) =] Also GoT is coming back so maybe audiobook the remaining 200 pages of it… O! And I started reading the Pete J. book like 10 years ago and I think it’s time I finish it =] I stopped half way through and I am in a LoTR mood and would quite like to read some non-fiction right now.

So a rather large TBR compared to watch it should be but as the days go on my deadlines will be coming and therefore my work load should be minimizing =]

How did you do this month? Got a favourite book from this month? Did any disappoint? Let me know below!

Harry Potter Spells Tag

Not done a tag in a long time – sorry =/ I wasn’t tagged by anyone =[ but I tag YOU!

1. Expecto PatronumA childhood book connected to good memories

The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials, #2) The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials, #3)

My memories of reading this are in Greece and Portugal, on holiday with my family, in the hotel room during nap time (yes my family has nap-times during holidays, normally 4pm – 6/7pm) just sat there reading, glued to the book while my parents slept.

2. ExpelliarmusA book that took you by surprise

The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1)

Blew. Me. Away.

3. Prior IncantatoThe last book you read

The Demon: Episode 1 (Sacrifice Me, #1)

Review here!!

4. AlohamoraA book that introduced you to a genre you had not considered before

Inspector Zhang Gets His Wish

Never thought I’d like crime-solving fiction; I was wrong.

5. RiddikulusA funny book you’ve read

Black Butler, Vol. 01 (Black Butler, #1)

I don’t really read humourous books (that or I don’t get the humour when reading, for example Terry Pratchett books I love but I miss the humour completely) but this manga gives me the giggles now and again.

6. SonorusA book you think everybody should know about

The Rain (The Rain, #1)

I haven’t read much YA or Distopian so I’m not sure on how good this is to a pro-YA/Dystopian reader but I found it very enjoyable and fun to read and is one of the few YA books that I’ve honestly enjoyed, if not the only YA book I’ve read without many complaints.

7. ObliviateA book/spoiler you would like to forget having read

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7)

I’ve never come across spoilers for books I’ve had interest in reading so I’m lucky there (besides Game of Thrones but that can’t be helped) but I’ve love to forget this book and read it all over again for the first time and get hit emotionally all over again!

8. ImperioA book you had to read for school

Hamlet

Freaking amazeballs!

9. CrucioA book that was painful to read

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)

For obvious reasons.

10. Avada KedavraA book that could kill (interpret as you will)

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)

I’m stealing the idea I saw a past blogger post here xD credit to that blogger! It was a genius idea!

11. AccioA book that you’d always like to have with you

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

Try not to have GoT or Mistborn always with me? Then this is my third choice in line – Oh the memories and good times!
